Hope Farm Rangers v AFC Waverton

AFC WAVERTON 2ND VICTORY OF THE SEASON

a very hard fought victory made harder than necessary by a difficult pitch and the ball getting stuck in the grass. AFC were clearly the better footballing side but made things hard on themselves by conceding a sloppy first minute goal. They did however well to come back and controlled the rest of the first half equalising through a very well taken left volley by Elliot.
The second half saw more sustained pressure by Waverton without any rewards until the opposition unfortunately put the ball in their own net from Mike Buckley's accurate corner. The team made the job even harder through lack of discipline and from not being able to convert another goal until the last minute when Motty, who never gave up all game and adapted very well to his new forward position, brushed off several challenges to slot the ball into the net.
An excellent hard fought but well deserved victory.

v Hope Farm

In a disparaging voice' Mick McCarthy was asked if his team's ''hard working performance'' had pleased him to which he answered don't think that Man Utd don't get where they are without hard work.
I mention this because not only because one or two needed to work a little harder on Sunday but also that pschologically the team beat itself because we did not believe that we could compete. Up to 0-0 the performance was fine - but we have to re-act to going a goal down in a far better way than we did.
For the hard work think of Dan Catford and Mike Buckleys' performances -(not the only ones)

We stopped doing the right things after having gone a goal down which was disappointing.
The positives were the excellent strikes by Mike, the midfield and the second half.

afc waverton v Nomads

       YES!!!!!!!  AFC WAVERTON WIN!!!!!!

AFC Waverton deservedly won a pulsating match with a superbly taken goal by MoM Motty
Every single team member put in a  winning performance and really made their watershed mark and gave themselves something to build on.
Every department, from defence to attack and including the substitutes who played a huge part in the win, performed to a high level and played some very good football. All in all this made the manager speechless, which has to be a first!!
A special mention to George who came on as substitute twice to score two excellently taken goals - well done to you all.

Harry - good solid performance coming out and claiming many dangerous through balls
Dan - worked hard all game up and down the right flank and putting out any danger
Sam - very assured at the back and went on one run so long it was scary!!
Ross - calm and leading performance from the rear
Dave - excellent steady first game for Waverton
Motty - MOM covered Nomads most dangerous player and what can I say about the winning goal(I did tell him in training that he would score)
Jordan - solid winning performance in the middle who together with
Lawrie - bossed the midfield and won every ball
Mike capt. - calm and disciplined and commanding
Adam - very unlcky not to get his name on the scoresheet today - tireless throughout
Joe - combined well with Adam and stretched the defence well

George - what a performance - nearly scored with his very first touch -
McAuley - added some renewed energy to proceedings and got through on a few occasions
Sam T - a brief cameo role giving the midfield some rest bite

The game on Sunday turned on a couple of very poor decisions not to award clear offsides one or two poor decisions by defenders and AFC Waverton's inability to deal with the long ball over the defence. In the second half, despite letting in another sloppy early goal, AFC Waverton dominated the play and it was only poor finishing that did not allow the game to end on a more even score. Lots of positives to take from the performance which showed up some good football but ultimately showed up the areas which need attention.

Goals from Adam Goldthorpe and Elliot Mazzotti
